Marvellous Maps

Nursery have been to the woods this week and as soon as we got near we could see things had changed a lot! The woods looked much darker and more mysterious… We realised the leaves had grown bigger since our last visit and that was why it looked so dark as we entered the winding path in, to find base camp.

This week we had a map to use to help find our way around the woods. First, we had to work out where base camp was on the map. We had to do our good looking and good thinking to find it…

Once we knew where we were on the map, we were off on our adventures. We looked at our maps to find where we were going. Some children looked for caterpillars. They looked high and low, they looked everywhere…

But we couldn’t find any! However, we did find some leaves with tiny holes in them, so we think there could have been some little caterpillars nibbling at them!

We had lots of fun exploring the woods and also enjoyed mixing up potions, cooking food, making music, playing peepo, bouncing, balancing and jumping. We even found some beautiful bluebells growing in the woods and discovered some sticky plants that stick to us like glue!

When we got back to Nursery we found we had some new, special visitors in our classroom, who we need to take care of. We looked at them very carefully, as they are only babies and we need to be gentle. We thought about what they might be…

We thought they could be wiggly worms, caterpillars or even snakes! We are going to see what they look like next week and how they have changed, to see if we can decide what they are and what they will grow into.

We will have to hope whatever they are they don’t eat our plants that are shooting up from the seeds we planted before Easter.

Please come back again, to see what has happened to our special visitors and to check our plants haven’t been nibbled!
